About the vineyard
Haspengouw has a lot going for it, and fruits play a leading role in it. In recent years, a new fruit has joined the ranks: the wine grape is booming. Our fruit region already counts many beautiful wine estates. In May '21, we too took up that challenge in Nieuwerkerken.
Viticulture, but different.
Le Maar is not just another vineyard:
we are a outlier, an "experiment" in our region.
Grapes
We work with resistant grape varieties. 928 vines of Merlot Khorus and Cabernet Cortis grow on Haspengouw soil, forming the basis for our own wine.
Art
Our vineyard is planted after Aleksandr Konstantinov's artwork Targets, making it unique in its kind. Art is co-central to our activities.
Events
At Le Maar we don't do anything alone, because winemaking together is much more fun. A community vineyard in Haspengouw, in other words. Follow our agenda to take part yourself!
Viticulture for our climate
Growing wines in Belgium? And in Limburg? It's back from long gone! Le Maar works with 2 resistant blue grape varieties. These are more resistant to fungal diseases that we sometimes suffer from in our more humid climate. Thanks to these resistant varietites, we can grow our grapes in the vineyard with maximum respect for nature.
Artistic landscape
Le Maar was planted after the artwork Targets by Russian artist and architect Aleksandr Konstantinov.
The vineyard is a circle made up of 32 rows. From the air, you can see Le Maar as an actual target. This provides insanely cool images and phenomenal experiences for Drone fans!
Events and residencies
Art and culture continue to play an important role in the further development of our wines and activities. For example, we invite international artists to stay on the estate.
In this way, we want to open up our beloved fruit region even more and make it known to visitors, art and nature lovers.
