Aleksandr Konstantinov
Aleksandr Konstantinov (Moscow, 1953-2019) was a Russian artist and architect-mathematician. In his works he always plays with geometry, and regularly seeks interaction with public space. As a tribute to our good friend, we planted Le Maar after the central design of his artwork series "Targets" (МИШЕНИ in Russian) that he exhibited in Moscow in 2001.
Targets, 2001
With an exhibition at the Novaya Collektsiya Gallery in Moscow in 2001, the Targets series is among the artist's early works.
The series refers to the idea of observation, and identifying an object in its environment.
Irony, 2009
Irony is the result of international friendship and an idea that arose in the midst of the global financial crisis. On June 25, 2009, a steel monument 7 meters high and 4 meters wide was inaugurated on the site of Europower Generators in Nieuwerkerken.
The artwork reflects the relationship between big Russia and little Belgium, economically, culturally and socially, generating a multifaceted dialogue with the public. Konstantinov created the design, and the work of art was then completely welded and assembled by Europower's team.
In 2021, E-power donated the steel monument to the municipality of Nieuwerkerken. The monument will be given a new use on one of the town's nature trails, very close to its original location in the industrial area.
Portillons, 2013
Portillons, in turn, is a collection of geometric gates and arches presented in late 2010 at Galerie l'Aléatoire in Paris. Here Alexander Konstantinov fully assumes his place as a landscape architect, elaborating robust yet elegant metal structures.
Anyone paying close attention will notice that the sculptures for this exhibition were made in Nieuwerkerken...
