Viticulture in Haspengouw
Viticulture in our region is booming.
In Nieuwerkerken, we are participating diligently! In 2021 we planted 928 vines of resistant grape varieties. Prof. Dr. Ghishlain Houben of Wijndomein Hoenshof is our guide.
2022
Ironie & Bolero Blues
Le Maar launches 2 wines in a unique collaboration with Hoenshof wine estate. You can now discover both wines for yourself through our collaboration with WHOOwine. The beautiful gift packaging is included!
Irony is a fresh and fruity white wine from the Muscaris grape.
Bolero Blues is a juicy and round red wine made from Cabernet Cantor, Cabernet Cortis and Cabaret Noir. With a nod to the past Bolero concert in our vineyard.
LOCAL COLLABS
Revolution 64 &
Oh La Lucie
In anticipation of our own wines, Le Maar already explored some collaborations this year with local winemakers such as Hoenshof, Jonedco and Wijnkasteel Schabroek. Revolution 64, a sparkling wine made from local apples as well as grapes was enjoyed. The unique Oh La Lucie, blanc de noirs from Cabernet Cortis, also charmed many a wine lover.
2021
Blanc de Noirs
Making white wine from blue grapes? Yes indeed!
In our first vintage, we kept some Merlot grapes aside, and the skins were removed immediately after pressing to preserve the white colour. The result? A fresh and fruity white wine made from blue grapes.
With love for nature
Can it be done, making red wine in Haspengouw? At Le Maar, we are going for it! We do so with the help of two resistant grape varieties that are less susceptible to fungal diseases. This allows us to work as naturally as possible in our vineyard.
Cabernet Cortis
These vines originate from Germany's Palatinate region. Cabernet Cortis gives powerful wines with strong tannins and aromas of cassis, cherry and violets.
Merlot Khorus
Like the classic Merlot grape, this hybrid variety provides good sugar levels, with many notes of red fruit. Our vines come from beautiful Venice.
2-year-old potted plants
In May 2021, many helping hands helped us plant the vines of Le Maar. We transplanted almost thousand 2-year-old vines in pots to their new soil.
By November 2021 we already had a first harvest of both varieties. It wasn't huge yet, but it was something to be proud of.
